Topic Brief: Tablets for Indian EducationIndia is facing an education crisis, in part because there are not enough skilled teachers to meet the rising number of students. Development professionals and government officials hope online learning using tablet computers will bridge that gap. India’s human resource ministry has promised to launch a low-cost computer device (Sakshat) by the end of this month. Many other companies and institutions like OLPC,iProF,ISNE and Marvell Electronics are involved in coming out with a product that targets the middle class students of India by giving them a platform which will allow them to transition from the age old pen-paper to digital-interfaced learning. The presentation would focus on the present technologies, the challenges being faced in their deployment and the possible ways these challenges could be tackled.
